Nature Drops Launches the Middle East’s First Infrared-Based Sterilization Station for Medicinal Plants

Cairo, Egypt — October 2025Nature Drops for Sterilization has officially inaugurated the first sterilization station in the Middle East dedicated to medicinal and aromatic plants, powered by infrared (IRD) light technology and clean electricity.

With investments totaling $2.5 million, the project aims to enhance the quality of Egyptian exports and solidify their presence in premium markets across Europe, the U.S., Japan, and South Korea. The IRD system significantly reduces microbial load while maintaining the color, aroma, and active compounds of essential oils, marking a major step toward global competitiveness.

A Sustainable Alternative to Traditional Steam

Khaled Masalati, Chairman of Nature Drops, explained that the company began operations in Egypt a year ago, offering integrated, electricity-powered sterilization services as an alternative to diesel-based systems.

He noted that the German-developed IRD technology is the first of its kind in both Egypt and the Middle East, offering a sustainable, low-emission solution that aligns with the European Union’s clean energy import regulations set to take effect next year.

Unlike conventional steam sterilization, which can degrade color and reduce the nutritional value of herbs and oils, the infrared-based process preserves their natural qualities and boosts export readiness.

Elevating the Quality of Egyptian Exports

Mohamed Bwadkji, Co-founder of Nature Drops, emphasized that the new facility will play a pivotal role in enhancing Egypt’s exports of medicinal and aromatic plants. It delivers sustainably sterilized products that meet global standards in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries.

 Fully Automated German Technology

Bwadkji highlighted that the sterilization process utilizes fully automated German machinery, handling all stages — including treatment and packaging — without human intervention.

After a three-year feasibility study, Nature Drops identified a significant market gap in Egypt’s sterilization infrastructure, prompting its investment and positioning Egypt as a regional hub for medicinal and aromatic plant production.

 Collaborations with Leading Exporters

The company is now collaborating with top Egyptian and international exporters, focusing on sustainable technology solutions that support Egypt Vision 2030 and the EU’s environmental standards. These initiatives aim to increase the value-added and global competitiveness of Egyptian products in pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors.

 Driving Egypt’s Green Economy

Bwadkji affirmed that Nature Drops’ operations are fully aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 sustainability goals, contributing to the country’s green economy and clean energy transition.

He concluded that the company plans to expand partnerships with local and international stakeholders and introduce specialized laboratory testing services, strengthening Egypt’s position in the global medicinal plant market.
